welcome to Zest Restaurant

Authentic Indian Restaurant

Established some 20 years ago, award-winning Zest enjoys one of Edinburgh’s prime locations and upholds a reputation as one of the Scottish capital’s finest, most hospitable and most joyous Indian-Bangladeshi restaurants. Situated near Harvey Nichols’ department store on the north side of Edinburgh’s iconic St Andrew Square, Zest’s chefs specialise in combining fresh herbs and aromatic spices with local Scottish produce to produce tantalising dishes showcasing the authentic cuisine of the Indian Sub-continent. Dishes are prepared fresh to order. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and features a special business lunch during the week. Edinburgh’s main bus station is a couple of hundred yards away, making it a particularly convenient dining venue and meeting place for travellers.

Cooking is a Passion!

Did we say ‘joyous’? Zest is also almost next door to the city’s famous Stand Comedy Club so don’t be surprised if you spot some well known comedians enjoying lunch or dinner - and maybe swapping jokes - at the next table.

In 1991 owner and Head Chef Gulam Anis Choudhury co-founded the International Indian Chef of the Year competition which celebrates the best of Indian restaurant businesses worldwide. In 2018 the guest of honour at the Awards’ ceremony was Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.

Anis’ experience of the Edinburgh restaurant business dates back to 1982 and includes his work with The Raj restaurant in Leith and Darjeeling restaurant in Dundas Street.

Zest’s guests have included the President of Bangladesh, His Excellency Abdul Hamid, and the country’s former Chief Justice, S.K. Sinha. We accept all major cards.
